CBDR Communications and Event Management Student Assistant • 6-10 hours per week • $15/hour
The Center for Black Digital Research (CBDR)/#DigBlk seeks one undergraduate (3rd or 4th year) who would like experience helping manage community and event support. This is an opportunity to work with a vibrant Administrative team that manages the day-to-day operations of innovative scholarly and public-facing work in a collective, collaborative community. This role will support events, related logistics, and communications (social media and website updates).
Skills required include: familiarity with Canva or other graphic design programs, familiarity with WordPress or other content management systems, and an understanding of social media landscape and best practices. This candidate will be energized to learn new skills and help ensure CBDR is a warm and welcoming space for scholars to make their home. This is an hourly, onsite position at University Park’s Pattee Library reporting to the Communications and Events Administrator, working approximately 10 hours per week, $15 an hour, for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with event and communication coordination where collaboration is highly valued.
Douglass Day Communication Student Assistant • 2-4 hours per week • $15/hour
Description: This position is for a self-motivated undergrad who is very comfortable using and interacting with social media and their peers.
We are looking for a social media manager to monitor and manage our Center for Black Digital Research (CBDR) socials: Facebook, Instagram (@Douglassdayorg), and X (@Douglassdayorg; @DigBlk) as well as act as liaison to on-campus student clubs and organizations for our Douglass Day celebration which takes place every February 14th. Two to four hours per week. Five hours the week of Douglass Day (Feb. 10-14) to include coverage during the event.

Responsibilities include:
- Attending the Undergraduate Student Involvement Fair on campus (Fall and Spring) on behalf of the CBDR and Douglass Day.
- Connecting with student organizations at the Fair. Joining the contact list of the organization email, Groupme, Instagram, etc. on behalf of the CBDR and Douglass Day.
- Updating the CBDR student group database (student leaders names, positions, emails, etc.)
- Following the student organizations on socials (IG, X, FB, etc.) using the CBDR login. Requesting them to follow back.
- Identifying sympathetic organizations on campus and across Pennsylvania to follow and cross post.
- Tagging and following organizations, individuals and groups who are involved in similar work to increase the CBDR network.
- Attending 1-2 student group meetings (when appropriate) per semester to directly connect with the organization’s members.
- Attending Douglass Day February 14th for the full run time—3.5 hours in the Pattee Library.
- Creating social media content (IG reels/stories, tweets, etc.) based on CBDR and Douglass website materials–exhibits and presentations and during public facing events. (at least 2-3 substantive* post per platform per week)
- Attending Douglass Day meetings (in-person preferred)
- Attending two meetings to discuss and implement strategy
*You will be provided content from the website and or other sources. This information will be shared during the planned strategy meetings.
*Experience with Canva and video editing is desired but not required.
